Built For Love I. - TAJ MAHAL- Master of Ceremony recommends for U
When Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died while giving birth to their 14th child, the grief-stricken emperor set out to build a mausoleum unlike any other, as a symbol of undying devotion to the love of his life. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and took 17 years to complete. An estimated 22,000 labourers, artisans and craftsmen were employed to build it. The monument is surrounded by a large garden, with a reflecting pool and fountains. Shah Jahan never fully recovered from losing his beloved, and when he died in 1666, his body was laid to rest beside hers. The Taj Mahal is recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and is one of the world’s finest examples of Mughal architecture
