Built For Love IV. -KODAI-JI TEMPLE KYOTO, JAPAN - Master of Ceremony recommends for U
The Kodai-Ji temple is one of Japan’s most important cultural properties. It was built by Kita-no-Mandokoro (also known as Nene), the wife of eminent warrior, general and politician of the Sengoku period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Nene was more than a wife to Hideyoshi; she was his closest confidant and aide. The daughter of a samurai, Nene was intelligent and often advised her husband on state matters. She also helped advance her husband’s political career through her strong familial connections. Upon Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s death in 1598, Nene became a Buddhist nun and founded the Kodai-Ji temple, where her husband, mother-in-law and stepson are buried.
